Design (Japan) 112, 1968, Magazine Cover by Mitsuo Katsui

This is the cover of the 112th volume of Design (Japan) Magazine, designed by Mitsuo Katsui. Mitsuo was born in Tokyo in 1931. He attended Tokyo Education University, from where he later graduated from in 1955. He embarked on his freelance journey in 1961, where he soon booked jobs such as magazine cover design, as well as receiving many interdisciplinary awards.

This unusual shape as pictured on the front cover can be classified as no more simply than captivating. The design almost resembles the glitchy effect you would find when trying to take a photo of the computer screen as a child, at least in the years from 2010-2015, as per my experience. This is artwork that I would display on my wall, as I love how the simplicity and minimalism of the cover art intersects with the intricacy and detail of the organic yet rigid shape.
