Churchward 69 Condensed and Churchward Marianna Black Print Negatives

744

These are typefaces designed by Samoan designer Joseph Churchward in 1969. The first image shows his Churchward 69 font, a blocky square typeface. This font was distributed by Berthold Fototypes, a German type company, where it found use in the international market.

The second image demonstrates the font Churchward Marianna, named after his daughter, is a more bubbly typeface. These were some of the first typefaces released after he founded Churchward International Typefaces the same year. Churchward International Typefaces would go on to become New Zealand’s largest typesetting firm.
