Shigeru Ban

14

The cover of Shigeru Ban is both visually striking and conceptually deep, reflecting the architect’s innovative use of materials. The most unique feature is the cut-out typography, where  half of the two “A” and “N” letters in “BAN” are removed, exposing a cardboard layer—directly referencing Ban’s pioneering work with cardboard in sustainable architecture.  The contrast between the white upper section, bold black text, and warm cardboard color creates a clean, modern look that mirrors his minimalist approach.

Ban, a Japanese architect, known for using recycled materials in disaster relief and temporary housing, has redefined architecture’s role in humanitarian efforts. By incorporating cardboard into the cover itself, the design embodies his architectural philosophy, making it both meaningful and interactive.
