Zhang Guangyu was born in a family of traditional Chinese medicine in Jiangsu Province. He is a famous decorative painter and cartoonist in modern China. Since photography was not popular at that time, the characters on the cover were hand-painted by him, and the types were also written by Zhang. 

The illustrations on the cover are different from the style full of simple and dynamic arc style shown in his later animations such as DaNaoTianGong. Differently, the brushstrokes are more delicate and the color tone is darker here. About fonts, the titles designed by Zhang are simple and smart. For example, the density of the strokes of the second and third Chinese characters with the "田" radical are very coordinated. Meanwhile, the design of the publisher's name below is very close to today's Chinese HeiTi typeface or Bold Art type in Microsoft.
