Where Am I Going? (Dusty Springfield) Album Cover Art

This is an album cover for the artist Dusty Springfield. She was an English artist that performed soul, pop and dramatic ballads.  The cover art reflects the love and inquisitive thinking that happened during the 60s counterculture movement in America. The design worked against the notion of fitting in, and explored the deeper meaning of relationships and authenticity. This movement was popular among  the youth and pushed against established social norms. This cover art used the simple phrase “Where am I going?” to educate the youth population on the core ideals of counterculture by breaking away from social norms to find their true path.  Dusty herself was a member of the LGBTQ community and stood as a figure for finding your inner truth. 

This album cover art inspired younger members of marginalized groups, specifically women and members of the LGBTQ community, to push boundaries and explore any faction of life they dreamed. Since this was a cover of a pop music album, it reached a large audience, making the message accessible to many people and sharing the ideals of the counterculture movement, moving social movements and design styles forward.
