A series of designs for Sapporo International Art Festival 2014, designed by Japanese designer Rikako Nagashima (長嶋りかこ), based on the theme “City and Nature (都市と自然).” The guest director Ryuichi Sakamoto (坂本龍一) selected the theme for this event. Ryuichi Sakamoto is a Japanese artist, composer, actor, pianist, and musician.
Rikako Nagashima is a well-known art director and designer who mainly focuses on branding, product, and advertisement related designs. She was selected as a winner for JAGDA Award General Graphic 2015 by this project.
She used straight and curved lines, as well as circles and rectangular shapes, to express the contrast between the organic and inorganic. Her designs reflect Japanese minimalism aesthetics and Ryuichi Sakamoto's visual aspect of music or sounds. Space between lines and shapes are well placed and build a sort of comfortable visual rhythm. These abstract forms portray this contrast, which perfectly fits the theme of “City and Nature (都市と自然).”
