Speaking in Tongues is the fifth studio album by American rock band Talking Heads, released on June 1, 1983. The band collaborated with renowned American painter and graphic artist Robert Rauschenberg to create a special limited-edition cover design. Rauschenberg designed a clear vinyl disc in a transparent case, with three rotating plastic discs printed in cyan, magenta, and yellow. This interactive design created changing visual effects and won him a Grammy for Best Album Package.
To promote the album, Rauschenberg also created a promotional poster. The poster highlights the album’s title “Speaking in Tongues” and the band’s name “Talking Heads”. The background consists of layered abstract images similar to album covers, reflecting Rauschenberg's signature collage style. This promotional poster not only promotes the album well but also successfully blends visual art and music.
