Rosmarie Tissi is a designer known for creating colorful and playful designs that both exemplify and challenge the visual characteristics of Swiss design. This poster design was created for a 1996 exhibition of the “Best Swiss Posters.”
Tissi’s designs are characterized by her mastery of arrangement and color. Tissi has stated that “The purpose of graphic design is to deliver information or a message in a package as original and interesting as possible,” which encapsulates her philosophy of creating unique yet effective solutions to briefs. Her practical approach to design was cultivated from a young age through her interest in STEM ( particularly in the fields of chemistry and inventing), which she felt applied to the way she “invents” designs on paper.
This poster design uses negative space to draw the viewer’s attention to the frame of the poster, rendered in saturated and playful primary colors. By leaving the center and borders of the image blank, the importance of the text and hues are brought into full emphasis. The poster's type is practically arranged in a black, modernist sans-serif; however, the offset tilt of the text frame adds an unexpected element of whimsy.
