Bulaq Press Quranic font CD
The Bulaq Press Quranic font CD is an application that supports Arabic characters and symbols in the sixth version of the Unicode 1 standard. With the development of printed typefaces in the West came the simplification of type as well; this project’s goal was to preserve the calligraphic qualities of Arabic script, while also making sure the font is suitable to write in any language that uses Arabic characters, such as Kurdish, Persian, Urdu, etc. It contains a digitized version of the font created by Mohamed Bek Ja’far in 1906, “Ja’far” which became the basis for the printed version of King Fuad's Quran, the first printed copy of the Quran in the Arab and Islamic world (Mansour, Hassan, 2020), printed by Bulaq press in Cairo, Egypt. It was the first heritage font to be digitized. DecoType also produced the “Amiri” font, which was a reconstruction of the Ja’far font that is used today as a classic.
