鲁迅：而已集 (And That’s All: a Miscellany)

Lu Xun is a poet, essayist, novelist, artist, and translator. He is one of the main pioneers of the New Culture Movement in China. Lu Xun titled this book “而已集” (And That’s All: a Miscellany), “而已” is an auxiliary word, usually not used alone, so only these two words are designed to be vertical here. Its meaning is close to “…, nothing more” or “…, that’s it” in English. This word echoes what he wrote in his epigraph: “During last year, I have seen a lot of blood and tears, but I only have some mixed feelings. When even ‘mixed feelings’ are ‘put where they should go,’ therefore, I only have ‘that’s all’ and nothing more left.” He wanted to use this word to summarize his anger and hopelessness about the status quo at that time.

In terms of cover design, the background of the book is white, and the lettering of the five words in the title designed by Lu Xun himself is designed based on the regular official script originated in the Qin Dynasty, and the arrangement of the words both have horizontally and vertically order. The ending points of the horizontal and vertical strokes of the characters are designed to look like blades, which is a metaphor for the revolutionary struggle. At the same time, the originally long left and right strokes are simplified to dots, symbolizing the drops of blood or tears from revolutionaries.
