This is the first book that the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal wrote to fight the Spanish colonization happening in the Philippines during the years 1565-1898. This is the original book that is preserved in the National Library of the Philippines, it has designs that are inspired by European culture because the author and illustrator of the book was residing there and released said book in Berlin where it was cheaper. However, there are also Filipino influences such as the illustration of the woman on the topmost left corner wearing the country's national outfit. Overall, it shows the diversity that the author experienced.
