El Filibusterismo cover

10

This is the cover of a translation that shows calligraphy and illustration work from 1975 in the Philippines. This is the second book that the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal wrote to fight the Spanish colonization happening in the Philippines during the years 1565-1898. However, this translation of the original book has more artistic illustrations such as the pen, book, dagger, cross, thorns, and plant that signify the events that happen in the book. There are 3 typefaces used, the bottom with the translator's name is a sans serif that shows modernism while the serif and calligraphy at the center of the book reference the first book's “Noli Me Tangere” cover showing an old look.

Possibly Filipino design. Please comment if you know more.
