アイデアIdea 54

24

Idea No. 54 from August 1962 exhibits a bold and brilliant cover representative of the experimental spirit of the Japanese graphic design of the 1960s. The cover comprises a lively collage of torn wrappers, superimposed shapes, and a color palette of purple, green, orange, pink, and black. Abstract forms and playful typography build depth and movement in direct light on the avant-garde style of the time. The title "Idea" has been broken and scattered in the layout so that both Japanese and English can be read together; it shows the international scope of the magazine with regard to advertising and design. Although no dimensions or designer's name are given, it reflects how, at the time, the trend was to mix the influences of Western modernism with distinctly Japanese sensibilities, resulting in a visual design that was remarkably flamboyant and energetic.
