Kinder-Humor für Auge und Ohr

705

This is an illustrative cover for a children's book by Gertrud Caspari, "Kinderhumor für Auge und Ohr" ("Children's Humor for Eye and Ear"). It was published in the early 20th century Germany. This design reflects a shift in children's book design, transitioning from a pastel color palette to bright primary colors and bold simple shapes. Though this made the images clearer and more engaging for children, it reinforced traditional gender roles as boys were shown as active and adventurous and girls were portrayed more domestic, and used particular “traditional” attire for each gender at the time.
