Design for the Velum

12

The velum design was originally created pre-World War II before it was damaged beyond repair. It has since been recreated in 1938 by original designer Johannes Itten as an installation piece in Stedelijk, along with the Design for the Velum, or Gesamtkomposition Des Velum. The velum was intended to represent the narrative of creation with humans, animals, and plant life, with the subjects portrayed in simple thin stick-like figures holding dynamic poses.
