Florence Y'all Water Tower Sign

The water tower of the town Florence, Kentucky, has become an iconic part of the town's history and local pride due to the odd history of its design.

Originally reading “Florence Mall", due to its location next to the town's (unbuilt) mall, the water tower was forced to change the text. Lyndon B. Johnson's 1965 Highway Beautification Act meant that the water tower could not advertise a location that did not exist, and the government was threatening fines.

The town of Florence decided the cheapest option was to turn the “M” into a “Y”, and since then, the water tower has influenced the town's history and identity greatly.
