The Evolution of the Apple Logo
Designed by Ronald Wayne in 1976, the Apple logo began as an intricate illustration of Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree, but was abandoned as too cumbersome. 1977 saw Rob Janoff create the iconic Apple image and add rainbow stripes, with the word “Bite” avoiding misidentification as a cherry and echoing the computer term “Byte. Bite” was added to avoid misidentification as a cherry and to echo the computer term ‘byte.’ In 1998, Steve Jobs took the lead in simplifying the logo by removing the rainbow of colors and replacing it with a monochromatic style in keeping with the modern trend toward minimalism in industrial design. The Apple logo has become one of the most recognizable brand logos in the world with its simple yet meaningful design.
