The ad columns completely eschewed the cool moving images and infectious disease messages that were common in automobile ads of the time, and instead made extensive use of white space to keep the reader's attention focused on the little Beetle in the picture. The text sits at the bottom, and the black sans-serif font is clearly visible against the white background. The headline “Think Small” is dense and contrasts with the prevailing view of the market.
