Margaret Leiteritz (1907–1976) was a German painter and illustrator who attended the Bauhaus in 1928. She was a recognized designer for the development of the first Bauhaus wallpapers, entrusted with coloring and monitoring the production of wallpaper at the Rasch company following her stellar performance at a competition for pattern design. First educated as a librarian, she also created a series of ‘painted diagrams’ as a method of transforming conventional diagrams into pictorial language, taking inspiration from scientific articles and books in her care. Although much of her work was lost during the bombing of Dresden, among the surviving materials are some of her illustrative pieces on works by Ancient Greek and modern authors.
