Plakatstil, meaning “poster style”, was a prevalent graphic design style that originated in Germany during the early 20th century. Plakistil utilizes simple, bold, and eye-catching designs that are accented by flat colors and shapes. The Plakistil poster style was created by German graphic designer Lucian Bernhard, the designer of this poster.

This poster advertises Steinway & Sons, a German-American piano manufacturing company. Within this design, Lucian followed his own Plakistil or poster style by using very striking imagery with a monochrome background and only a small amount of large typography that draws the viewer in and makes the viewer curious about the product.
