This newspaper ad for beauty products and cosmetics sold by Poro College was designed and illustrated by Charles Dawson, an African American designer and artist. The ad features a detailed illustration of a Black woman wearing Egyptian clothing and jewelry, drawing comparisons between the woman and famous mythological figures such as the goddess Isis.
Much of Dawson's work centered around commercial designs for hair and beauty products. Dawson also created illustrations uplifting Black Americans through image, with many of his works “featuring pleasing Negro types” (UChicago).
