Disney Character Ration Book Holder

741

This ration book holder features iconic characters, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Pluto leaving the “Super Duper Market” with their goods holding ration books, used during the World War II Era.

During this era, a countrywide ration went into effect, and Walt Disney Productions used their resources to promote conserving resources—one of their promotional tactics was using their iconic and beloved characters.

This is important to graphic design history because it shows how the U.S. utilizes propaganda to persuade its audience using graphics. Not only are the Disney mascots used to promote rationing, but because these characters are beloved by the general public, they were able to help the American people remain lighthearted in such a dark time.
