The Design Archive | Pakistan (Design Dashtahjaat)

Design Dashtahjaat is one of the only dedicated archives to the history of Pakistani Graphic Design, and Urdu Type and Design Heritage. 

The Archive is dedicated to documenting and archiving local Graphic Design and Typography Tradition, and by extension, anything to which the basic principles of type and design apply.

Their scope of work includes:

- Pre-independence Urdu typography and design, Indo-Persian calligraphic heritage, and Arabic Calligraphy from Pakistan;

- The evolution of Pakistan's design heritage since 1947;

- Design and typography from all languages spoken in Pakistan today; and

- Arabic and Persian type design, focusing on vocabulary and heritage these languages share with Urdu.

It has ten sections: Logos, Trucks, Rickshaws and Other Vehicles; Philately and Bank Notes; Signage; Packaging and Advertising; All Things Print; Lettering, Typography and Typefaces; Graffiti; Digital Design; and Illustrations.

The Design Archive of Pakistan is a project by Folkloristan, a collective focused on researching and preserving Pakistan's folklore and artistic heritage, both traditional and contemporary. 

Folkloristan is dedicated to translating, documenting, and visualizing aspects of Pakistani folklore, culture, and history. Their website also maintains a blog that explores and researches Pakistan's historical and cultural narratives.
