International Women's Day, March 8, 1977

The first of our designs—and a controversial one. There were a lot of objections to showing women with guns. We were acknowledging and celebrating the role of women in the liberation movements in southern Africa, Latin America, and Vietnam—as part of the Women’s Liberation Movement. Those who objected had, perhaps, a narrower view of the meaning of liberation.
