Bell Telephone System Editorial Ad

55

This Bell Telephone System ad was found in a 1944 edition of Nature Magazine. This wartime ad urges the viewer to not spend more than 5 minutes on a phone call in order to keep lines clear for more important matters.

A friendly illustrative style conveys this message with a well dressed man talking on the phone as a pendulum nears his head. Still, the man speaks with a smile. The man says “I think I'd better stop now.” This type is set on a curved line leading to the man's face. In all, the message manages to be direct and clear without coming across as harsh.
