Advertisement for Kodak Film Development Tank in Ladies Home Journal (1907)

562

After George Eastman invented the dry-plate camera, the Kodak company advertised the camera's portability and simplicity, making it easy for the average person to use. This advertisement in the Ladies Home Journal in 1907 particularly shows its new film development which cuts out the process of mailing in the used film to the company and receiving back a developed roll, instead letting the users develop the photos themselves with no experience necessary.

Here you can see a man and woman using the new technology while out camping in the woods. While Kodak often shows women using its products to show how the portability appealed to a new market and to speak directly to the “new” woman at the time who was independent and explored the world, this ad shows a woman who is completely at ease in the natural world. She is standing in a relaxed pose as the man shows her the developed photos.
