562

Self-taught graphic designer and illustrator, Ethel Reed designed the advertising poster for Albert Morris Bagby's New Novel, Miss Träumerei in 1895. The poster features a woman sitting at a piano with dandelion flowers in the foreground in the recognizable Art Nouveau style.

Born in Massachusetts in 1874, Ethel Reed was most well known for her iconic poster designs. In 1893 she briefly attended the Cowles Art School in Boston where she gained national recognition as a poster artist and illustrator according to the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She was also an important figure of the Art Nouveau movement during the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Reed's prolific design career and widespread advertisements earn her a place in the history of graphic design, as one of the key illustrators of the Art Nouveau movement.
