The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Album Cover

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is the debut and only studio album by Lauryn Hill. It was released on August 25th, 1998, by Columbia Records and Rufflehouse Records. It is a neo soul, R&B, and hip-hop album.  It follows Lauryn Hill's personal and professional struggles in life.

The photographers for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album cover are Marc Baptiste and Eric Johnson. The art direction is credited to Lauryn Hill and Erwin Gorostiza.

Many photos were taken into consideration for the album cover. Photographic images of the inside of a classroom, a hallway, a lavatory, and a school bus were taken to accompany the album theme. 

The image on the CD album cover is a close-up image of Lauryn Hill. The image was made to look like she was carved into a wooden desk. All the photographs were taken at the Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey. Lauryn Hill is an alumnus of Columbia High School and paid an homage to her experience growing up.
