American Heritage Civil War Chronicles

1

Creation Date: Winter 1993

Medium Technique: Print

Provenance: The American Heritage Civil War Chronicles magazine, first published in 1993, was part of the American Heritage series, known for its in-depth historical publications. It focused on the Civil War, featuring articles, photographs, and expert analysis. Produced by the editorial team behind American Heritage Magazine, it was aimed at both general readers and history enthusiasts. The magazine was sold individually or by subscription, offering detailed coverage of the war's events and impact.

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Descriptive Notes: The magazine has 64 pages with 8 articles covering topics from presidential acts, military commands, and stories of residual emotions after the war.

Style: The composition is very text heavy. On any given spread there are 5-6 columns of small point text with a rather small image in one of the corners. The images are not as flashy as modern day magazines and often focus on a random figure to represent a

majority instead of a celebrity.

Context: While focusing on the Civil War, this magazine was made in 1993 which is approximately 130 years after the Civil War ended. Although this makes the stories of the events of the war more disconnected from when they actually happened, it allows for a well rounded look at the war where long lasting effects can be taken into account.

Source: I owned this but it was found in a local antique shop in Grand Rapids.
