This can of automatic drip Folger’s coffee is from 1984. This version of the logo was introduced with the iconic jingle, “The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup!” While the company had been around for 134 years before that ad campaign, Folgers became the best selling coffee brand in the 1990’s because of the catchy jingle.
The logo on this can is very different from the original design. The first coffee to come from Folgers depicted a gold miner standing next to a shasta stream to represent San Francisco, California, the city that the company was founded in. Since then, Folgers has expanded its reach past California, but not without forgetting its roots. The mountain near the top of this particular version of the logo is meant to be Mt. Shasta so the brand can stay true to its hometown.
Not long after this design was introduced to the market, Folgers became a NASCAR sponsor in 1986. The new jingle was so effective in making the Folgers a household name that the public could just see the brand’s name and think of the song that comes with it.
