The creation of the album cover for L.A. Woman by The Doors was a collaborative effort between Wendell Hamick and Carl Cossick. Wendell Hamick oversaw the photographing of The Doors for the record and Carl Cossick was oversaw the concepting and designing the album cover as well as overseeing the printing process. Hamick had built is photographic career by shooting for bands in the psychedelic rock scene and was known for creating "psychedelic" shots which Cossick took inspiration from for the designing of the album cover.
Hamick and Cossick worked directly with The Doors during the process of creating the album cover. Including them in the ideating, direction, and the finalization of the record. The album was released April 19, 1971.
