State-Side News : Feb 8-9, 1946

850

State-Side News was a newspaper printed for occupation troops returning from Japan in 1946. The February 8-9 issue includes information about the Indonesian War of Independence, Japanese balloon bombs,  the Yokohama War Crime Trials, and more.  At the top, the words “Ah So Deska” are printed as a transliteration of the Japanese phrase, “How it is.”

This newspaper was mimeographed with a low cost duplicator often used by the military. With the mimeograph, large quantities of papers could be printed and distributed quickly, making it an effective solution for sending information to troops during World War II.
