The development of chromolithography was important to the spread of ideas regarding the Women's Suffrage movement of the early 1900's.
According to the Harvard Library, the poster featured was made in 1903 by Hilda Dallas, a British women's rights activist. The piece was created to advertise Votes for Women, the official newspaper of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU). Designer Hilda Dallas completed a variety of different posters promoting the feminist newspapers.
These widespread poster designs were recognizable as well as informational and according to the WSPU, the charming posters resulted in the increase of newspaper sales in Brighton. Hilda Dallas ultimately contributed to the overlooked history of women in graphic design through her successful and impactful designs.
