¡Libertad ó Muerte! (Freedom or Death) is a children's book published by the Cuban government. It was a part of Fidel Castro's literacy program and was published shortly after Castro took control of the country in 1959.
The book tells the story of the revolution in Cuba through a combination of words and colorful images, printed on collectible cards.
The first page states (translated from Spanish):
“The Cuban Revolution is too precious an event to waste its wise teachings on immeasurable exploitation. Its facts, its purest essence, must be expressed, as is done in these pages, with a civic sense of correctness. No distorted facts, no speculative eagerness. Only one intention: to offer the reader a historical synthesis, carried out to the maximum of understanding and to the minimum of bi-procritical culteranisms.”
“Let it (the book) be a source of knowledge for children and a reference book for adults”
