Furrow was the student publication (1919) of the New York State Institute of Applied Agriculture on Long Island, currently Farmingdale State College-SUNY. This issue of “Furrow” in particular had topics written on young athletics and how the agricultural farm life affected young men and their relationships with their fathers. The “Freshman's Secret” being one of the first topics discussed, was about the story of a young boy who grew jealous of the new athlete for taking his position on the track team resulting in a developed scheme to get revenge on his newcomer teammate. Furthermore, towards the end a poem concluded the passage discussing how boys tend to leave the farm due to their fathers greed in taking credit for all that the boys worked for.
