Archive Adoption: The Anti-Slavery Alphabet
This certificate recognizes that I have adopted the archive The Anti-Slavery Alphabet. I have analyzed the material and replicated some components of it.
The Anti-Slavery Alphabet was a small booklet made by Hannah and Mary Townsend. It was designed to educated children in the family household about slavery, and motivate desegregation in the generation. It uses the alphabet to create poems and related slavery concepts to describe the African American perspective in the 1800s. This booklet was printed for the Philadelphia Anti-Slavery Fair in 1846 and was printed by Merrihew & Thompson, printers.
