Lynx's Lucy Pinder ad

This  ad campaign features Lucy Pinder in provocative poses and outfits. They also include vulgar slogans like, “can she make you lose control?” The campaign is for Lynx Dry Full Control Deodorant. There was a series of five adverts which were not received well by the public. People found it widely offensive and completely inappropriate. The ASA, Advertising Standards Authority, banned these ads because they were degrading and objectifying women and they were placed in irresponsible locations where they could be viewed by children. The issues arise from the popularity the ads receive from their target audience, young men.

The ads are offensive and inappropriate, however, they are effective in their marketing strategies. This is a constant problem that still exists today. The only way to change the narrative, is to put out visuals that will change the opinion of the public…. Except companies know that, although morally wrong, these strategies are successful, and changing the narrative may cause their businesses to suffer. This is how the endless cycle of stereotypical advertisements have flourished.
