Fleeing Laos

850

Story cloths were products made by the Hmong people in the Thai refugee camps during the mid-1970s, acting as a means of earnings for refugee families. Typically, the women hand-sewed the clothes while the men contributed to the design and writing.

This story cloth depicts a story of Hmong people fleeing Laos. The people shown are carrying few belongings, experiencing warfare and combat with armed Vietnamese soldiers, hiding in caves and the jungle, crossing the Mekong River, and entering refugee camps.
