The 2008 U.S. Open

For this contribution to the People's Graphic Design Archive, I selected the 2008 U.S. Open Torrey Pines poster designed by Lee Wybranski. This poster, created for the golf tournament held in San Diego, California, captures the intersection of sports culture and graphic design through its use of bold, illustrative elements and traditional layout design. The work exemplifies the use of clean lines, minimalistic color palettes, and an emphasis on iconic imagery, which are hallmarks of effective event branding. In addition to golf posters, Wybranski has created artwork for major organizations like the PGA of America and has worked on branding for golf courses and events all across the country. His ability to visually encapsulate the spirit of each golf event (especially vintage events in the modern day) has earned him a prominent place in the world of sports illustration and design.
