The Creative Woman Book Sleeve
This image is a book sleeve design by Stephen Kraft for the novel "The Creative Woman" by Dorothy Goldberg. Dating back to 1963, gender stereotypes have been perpetuated through the use of color and, unfortunately, continue to be reinforced in society today. This is evident in the overall palette used on the cover design. Even colors not directly associated with femininity, like cream, have a warm pink undertone. The intentional use of warmer, pink-toned neutral colors subtly directs the book toward a female audience. This choice uses color subconsciously to communicate gendered stereotypes. This tactic of using warmer tones to equate to a female gaze can still be found in media today.
