Bike Expo New York Poster

436

This advertising poster made by Emily Oberman for the 2014 New York Bike Expo not only reflects a careful balance between color and type in a design, but also holds a deeper connection to Oberman's background. Although Oberman is a strong designer in her own right, her father was a designer and her mother an artist. In her early career, she was commissioned by her parents to do design work for them. The use of bold colors and the conversation between the type and other elements within the poster showcases the high level of creative refinement and technical skill she both learned and was supplemented with in her early life. Growing up in a “culturally rich” environment objectively would have helped Oberman grow into the success she has found herself in, so could this command of design principles allude to a difference in access to knowledge and resources in the creative world?
