The Albany Gazette

423

This is the first newspaper to reach Albany. It showcases a use of both utilitarian and decorative design techniques. For example, most of the typography is a very simple slab serif font for ease of readability, but the first “a” in the first column is calligraphic. This newspaper displays how typography can both be used to serve an every day purpose, like sharing the news, while also being considered design through it's organizational qualities and typographical choices.

This newspaper was released at the start of the American Industrial Revolution, at a time where the technology to make newspapers practical was blooming. Though, the newspaper soon went out of production as the publishers didn't have the means to keep up with this growing business.
