Macintosh Test Drive Brochure Cover
When the Macintosh was introduced in 1984, it was the first mass-market desktop computer with a graphical user interface and a mouse. This truly revolutionary computer changed the way print design was created. It also came with something unprecedented for this time – a comparatively wide range of fonts, thanks to Steve Jobs’ interest in typography.
As part of the introductory campaign, Apple launched a Test Drive program in November 1984. Anyone could stop by their local Apple retailer, borrow a Mac for 24 hours, take it home and give it a spin.
This is the cover for a 16-page brochure that was given to consumers who took the test drive. The front and back covers were printed in full color with a spot varnish; the inside covers were printed in a grey match color. Text pages were printed in 2 colors, red and black. Trim size was 7.5" wide and 9" high.
Text pages were divided into the following sections:
- How to Test Drive a Macintosh
- Using MacPaint and MacWrite to Get Your Idea Across
- Using Multiplan and Chart from Microsoft to Track Finances
- Using MacProject and Multiplan to Manage Your Project
- Where to Go Next
From the last section of the brochure:
“When was the last time you had so much fun getting so much work done? That's why we say Macintosh is ‘the computer for the rest of us.’ ”
