The Total Destruction of the British Pacific Naval Fleet (英東洋艦隊全滅す)
These kamishibai play cards show the Japanese perspective of the sinking of the British naval ships “Prince-of-Wales” and “Repulse”. This also announces the attack of Pearl Harbor a couple of weeks after it happened. The rendering is in the traditional nihonga style while still being realistic. It was important as it continued to the end of the story with children on the play card praying for the troops at a shrine. There are troops on the last card that has a slogan saying, “ One Hundred Million Japanese Citizens” which emphasizes how civilians and troops were connected together in the “sacred” cause.
