This poster with contrasting black, white, and red imagery is a tribute poster to the Stanley Kubrick film, “The Shining”, designed by Cuban artist Raupa. The large bold white letters at the top, “El Resplandor”, is the spanish translation of the title of the film, with bold lines drawing from the title towards the margin of the design. One of these lines connects the film description, including the spanish translation of “a film by Stanley Kubrick”. Below this is the name of the star actor of the film, Jack Nicholson, with the red streak of a children’s bicycle drawing your eye from the name towards the bike’s crimson figure.
This film poster is simple, but bold and holds a lot of contrast within it. It sticks to only the necessary information and keeps the imagery of the film subdued, only including the outline of the bike featured in the film. Its color palette being black, red, and white implies that this film is dark or eerie, with the typefaces slightly imperfect to add more to this feeling Raupa seemed to be intending to evoke.
