I know that this Item has been issued by the government in 1862. It was the first design of Thomas Jefferson portrait on $2 bills in 1862. Also the largest bill at the time. Ten years later brought in 1976, The federal Reserve brought back the $2 dollar with a new beautiful picture depicting the presentation of the declaration of independence to the continental congress on the back of the bill. The designer of Jefferson portrait. Charles Wilson Peale Born in April 15, 1741 and died in January 22, 1827. he was an American solider and painter. Peale became the most fashionable portrait painter of the middle colonies. The one who designed the back of the Two Dollar Bill was John Trumbull was the artist of the U.S capitol Rotunda images of Trumbull's Declaration of Independence portrait.
