My Grandmother Cheryl Wilson made this quilt in the early 2000's. She suffered a major stroke in 2000 and lost almost all function in the left side of her body. She had to relearn how to walk and talk, as well as leave the job she loved dearly. Once she began to recover she wished for a hobby to help fill her time.
Her and my Grandfather James Wilson took up the task of quilting to make life a little bit sweeter during such a difficult time. He would cut the fabric for her into little sqaures and she would slowly sew them together to create beautiful patterns. Some were following a template while others were experimental.
This quilt is one of the first that my Grandma made. She found a deep love for quilting and made a baby blanket for almost every one of her 35 grandchildren. Despite her disability she inspired many with her resilience and courage to not only learn something new but create intricate new designs.
My Grandma has recently passed and I know she would be happy knowing that one of her quilt designs will never be forgotten.
