Throughout history, Graphic Design has been present in many different forms; whether it be chicken scratches/paint inside caves, ancient civilization jewelry, road signs, the contents within & on books, or even a country’s flag. All of these (along with many more) represent something, they symbolize something. Humans, whether we like it or not, always relate something to another to understand it; for example, red & green commonly associates with stop & go.

Graphic Design can help us convey messages in digital and/or physical settings via manipulating the usage of, or lack thereof, space that impacts the viewer significantly or subtly. As such, a history of Graphic Design is one that presents an understanding of the desirability, usefulness, & interaction between the art & the viewer; or
rather the intention.
