Visual communication through illustrations and icons helps players understand the game.

Player guides have had an important role in game design history. The overall design and creation of these player guides also helped promote Nintendo and their overall branding. They were able to not only sell video games, but create magazines for gamers. Player’s guides, such as this one, give an insight on design trends and technological advancements during the 1990s and early 2000s. The Nintendo 64 was created with a 64-bit processer which allowed for the design of 3D games on this console. As Nintendo came out with more improved consoles, the Legend of Zelda games became even more realistic in terms of art style.
