“Incredible Poetry” by Victor Moscoso, 1968. Part of the Neon Rose collection, this is Neon Rose #24. This standout poster was the final design of the collection.
This poster was used to promote the opening night of a poetry reading at the Nourse Auditorium in San Francisco, California. This auditorium has since been renamed the Sydney Goldstein Theater. Poets such as Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Michael McClure gathered during a weeklong poetry presentation to read their work.
Two overlapping lips mimic a talking mouth that says incredible. Dozens of tiny pink and green stars cascade from the top of the poster. 3D blocks letters on the bottom third of the poster list the names of the poets, the place, and the date. The bottom text in yellow reads the name of the collection, the address, and Moscoso's signature.
Moscoso used offset lithography to create this poster. The emergence of DayGlo inks and their ability to create highly fluorescent colors greatly contributed to this era of psychedelic art.
